Success for Junior Level gymnasts at the North
Harbour competition |
|
|
Nearly 300
competitive gymnasts participated at the weekends
North Harbour Levels competition. Coming from
as far a field as Dunedin and Kaitaia, the
competition was a wonderful opportunity for the
children perform their routines for the judges and
parents. For the first time, medals were
awarded from 1st to 6th place - so lots of awards
were up for grabs.
Saturday saw nearly
12-hours of competition across 4 rounds, whilst
Sunday's competition finished with the 2010 Men's NZ
team performing their routines in practice for the
Commonwealth Games.
Champion Photos were
present all weekend capturing the gymnasts
movements. Please click on the link below to
be taken to their website. The photos can
be purchased - for an extremely reasonable price -
through the website.

Smiles all around for children at GYMFEST |
|
|
Our annual Gymfest
once again attracted hundreds of children from
across the North Shore and Rodney. The boys
and girls performed their routines for the judges
who awarded coloured ribbons. All the
participants went away with a variety of ribbons, a
good bag and a big smile.
For the first time we
had a professional photographer on hand to capture
the gymnasts. Peter from Champion Photos has
uploaded the photographs to his website for people
to look at and purchase at an extremely reasonable
rate. Click on the logo below to be directed

|
|
This weekend was
another busy one for the junior gymnasts and coaches
from North Harbour. The rhythmic girls were
away at the Wellington Open Championships.
Victoria Gancheva performed her new level 5 routines
brilliantly and was rewarded with first places in
freehand, ribbon and overall. Victoria is also
a member of the grade IV group who won a gold medal.

Victoria Gancheva -
winner of the Fyson Family Cup for the highest
average score across all levels.
Olga's girls also had
success at all the levels they entered - especially
levels 1, 2 and 3 where North Harbour took home the

Three of the
North
Harbour Senior Women's Artistic gymnasts have been
competing in Australia at the Victorian State
Championships. The girls faced strong
competition with gymnasts from Australia, Singapore
and New Zealand attending the event.
Brittany
Robertson performed 2 days of consistent
routines at the Junior International level and was
rewarded with the bronze medal but unfortunately
just missing out on an apparatus medal with 4th
place finishes on bars, beam and floor.
Briana
Mitchell faced strong opposition in the
Senior International event. After the 2nd day
of competition Briana finished 7th with a 6th place
on vault. Briana is now off to Singapore with
the Commonwealth Games team to compete in the
Singapore Open.
Alexis Capon,
Level 7, recovered from a difficult start to have a
better competition on the 2nd day.
Unfortunately the scores from both days were added
together for the final positions. Alexis
finished a commendable 7th on vault.
Our junior boys and girls
also competed at the Mason Gillespie Competition.
For the level 2 boys this was their first
competition - well done boys.

Medals
Success for James and Briana at Voronin Cup, Moscow |
|
|
Whilst everyone one
else was winding down for the Christmas break, 4
North Harbour gymnasts were preparing to compete at
the prestigious Voronin Cup in Moscow. The
group with their coaches - Sasha and Alexandra
Koudinov - braved the -30 temperatures to compete
alongside some of the top international gymnasts
from countries including the UK, Russia, Japan and
the Ukraine. James Hennin and Josiah Geange
competed well against strong competition in the
Senior Men's event. The pommel routine
performed by James was enough to secure him a place
in the apparatus finals. James went on
to perform fantastically and secure the bronze
medal.

The girls also rose
to the challenge with Brittany Robertson scoring a
fantastic 47.95 in her first ever Junior
International competition, and qualifying for bars
and floor apparatus finals. In the Senior
International event Briana Mitchell just missed out
on a place on the all-around final but made up for
the disappointment with places in the bars and beam
apparatus finals. Briana fought
valiantly and competed an excellent beam routine to
win the bronze medal.
