Keeping the Beat |
Harbour Gymnastics' Playgym classes are also music based to
reinforce the need for music in children's development.
Tessa Griggs believes children have lost many of the
opportunities to learn how to keep a beat as a result of our
modern lifestyles but she says it definitely does help a
child, in may ways, if they can keep a beat.
"Children need to develop a strong sense of the beat and
because the way we live our lives has changed from those
earlier times when a beat was supplied by a variety of
sources, we need to make some adjustments so that our
children have opportunities to learn to keep the beat," says
Tessa.
For many of these children there will be a range of issues
but if you test a group of children who are challenged by
sport you will find that many of them can not keep the beat.
Tessarose songs are recorded at a higher pitch than most
music and is now used in pre-schools throughout New Zealand,
Australia and Asia.
