Join a gymnastics team |
Competitive gymnastics is fun and exciting.
If
you can do at
least five chin-ups, hold and L-Hang for about 10 seconds and do a bridge
then give the Centre a call to make a time to try-out. See the pictures
below.

Classes start at one
hour a week and can progress up to 12
for both boys and girls. Competitions are normally between May and September
in New Zealand. As you get older you may get the opportunity to represent
New Zealand at overseas competitions.
Below are some of the moves you will learn to do in a gymnastics team.
You will develop great balance, co-ordination, strength, flexibility and muscle
tone. It may also increase your ability to focus, concentrate, memorise and
finish a task. These skills are needed at school. Time-management and
goal-setting are also key skills that will help you in school and later when
you get a job.
Gymnastics is a very
good base for all other sports. The core strength
you will develop in gymnastics will put you at the leading edge of other
sports. Many successful athletes in other sports were once gymnasts.
